The Houston trio, Waterparks, played last in Ireland in 2022 and hadn’t been back since then. Needless to say, fans were more than impatient and ecstatic to finally see the three friends again.
Opening for Waterparks that evening, was the Irish band called Greywind, who loudly shared that it was “good to be home” to the Irish crowd. Their energy got people warmed up for what was to follow, the band they had come to see.
Waterparks started the evening on a strong note; one song after another, without any real pause or interactions with the crowd. However, it did not deem the fans’ high energy and pure joy of being able to hear and sing along to their favourite songs, while jumping around and dancing.
After a while though, Awsten (the singer) greeted and thanked everyone for coming to see them and began to tell the team’s experience of their boat trip across to Dublin: “There was a huge man that wanted to kill Otto !” (the drummer).
While the story was told in a joking way, the scene itself was actually captured and posted on the band’s social media page, where you can see a drunk man giving out to Otto while he was chatting with others; telling him to shut up.
Regarding the setlist, the band decided not to have one that was set in stone and let people in the crowd pick them themselves, Some of the choices Awsten offered were ‘Telephone’ or ‘Peach’, ‘Not warriors’ or ‘Gloom Boys’. The singer was also left on his own with his acoustic guitar for a bit and he sang a few songs that the crowd picked, which included: Snowglobe, Fluster, A Little Bit Closer, and 21 Questions. The only request was to sing along with Awsten: “You gonna sing it with me, right ? You not gonna ruin my life, right ?!” leaving everyone laughing and cheering.
The band also had two good news to tell that night. The first one was that their new album was finished and should be coming out soon. The second good news announced was that they will come to Ireland to play their new album, for sure ! Unlike for their previous album … For which the crowd booed loudly, only to be met with a joke from Awsten; asking them to boo even more as “your boos are my proteins”.
One can only assume that fans were more than satisfied from the show and those news and left happy to know that they will see the three friends in Ireland again soon !
Waterparks can still be seen in London (March 25th) and in Bristol (March 26th), where the tour will end.
