As fans gathered for one of the most highly anticipated nights of the year, a palpable sense of excitement filled the air, encouraging everyone to engage in meaningful discussions about the re-examination of emblematic legacies. This event held significant importance within the metal community, prompting every aficionado to reflect on the monumental impact of the legendary Abbott brothers of Pantera. What started as a concert transformed into a heartfelt homage to the pivotal figures who have shaped the metal landscape over the past two decades.

Kicking off the evening, the Texas thrash metallers Power Trip electrified the crowd with an intense performance celebrating their musical heritage. They opened with powerful tracks like ‘Soul Sacrifice and Executioner’s Tax (Swing of the Axe)’, which sent the audience into lively mosh pits. The thunderous ‘Firing Squad’ inspired another circle pit to form almost instantly.

Although there was a brief interruption during ‘Hornet’s Nest’ due to an audience memberโ€™s injury, the band pressed on with ‘Nightmare Logic’, which exploded in perfect timing. During ‘Drown’, the Texans honoured their late frontman, Riley Gale, moving the crowd as heads bobbed in unison. ‘Crucifixation’ engaged the audience as they recognised each band member for their fierce performance. The deep rumble of the bass pulsed through ‘Waiting Around to Die’, and as the night culminated in a thrilling finish with ‘Manifest Decimation’, the crowd was left with the impression of a well-deserved return to the UK shores.

Then came the moment everyone had been waiting for. With the curtain drop, two decades of history unfolded on stage. From the unifying chorus of ‘A New Level’ to the explosive ‘Mouth for War’, fans of all ages experienced the relentless force of Pantera as they made their long-awaited comeback.

‘Strength Beyond Strength’ opened with a thunderous roar that reverberated through the venue, followed by ‘Becoming’,which left the bandโ€™s watchers in awe. When I’m Broken rattled the venue, delivering a visceral punch, fans held their breath as ‘Suicide Note Pt. II’ showcased the raw intensity unleashed on cue. ‘5 Minutes Alone’ stirred nostalgia, with swaying bodies dedicated to the headbangers. ‘This Love’ drew fans into a whirlwind of energy, while the haunting beauty of ‘Floods’ created a poignant moment in honour of the Abbott brothers.

The two prominent remaining members, Phil Anselmo and Rex Brown, brought renewed energy to the powerful setlist, with Anselmo delivering a revitalised performance while Brown pounded the basslines with skill. Witnessing memories reignite with a fresh perspective was a virtuoso moment, as Zakk Wyldeโ€™s blistering guitar riffs ignited the atmosphere, adding a powerful layer to the emotional tributes within the metal catalogue.

Complementing this sonic mastery was Charlie Benante of Anthrax, whose thunderous drumming electrified the crowd. An enthralling display of iconic influences resonated deeply with fans, stirring memories and paying tribute to the cherished legacies of Vinnie Paul and Dimebag Darrell.

Without hesitation, ‘Walk’ challenged the audience to propel the volume, inspiring Leeds to unleash a rousing connection. The set transitioned seamlessly into ‘Domination and Hollow’, maintaining momentum, while the explosive ‘Cowboys From Hell’ ignited a fiery response, capturing the essence of metal.

As the night culminated with the fierce anthem ‘F**ing Hostile,’ fans erupted in a frenzy of excitement, raving about the exceptional sound and carefully curated setlist. Pantera’s triumphant return was nothing short of spectacular, unveiling a metal prowess that will be etched in the memories of all who were fortunate enough to witness it.
