Boston Manor are no strangers to Southampton. 10 years ago they went on their first tour around the UK – a 4-date tour that included a tiny DIY show in the living room of the house of Southampton promoter, Ricky Bates, who put the show on. 10 years later, they play a near enough sold out show to around 800 people at Engine Rooms, the third largest music venue in the city, bringing with them Trophy Eyes from Australia, and British nu-metal band, Split Chain, to open up.ย

Split Chain are a band that have really taken off in the last year or so, only starting properly as a band in April 2023, theyโ€™ve gained a lot of momentum on social media, gaining a loyal following very quickly. The band hailing from Bristol was a perfect opening for the show in getting the crowd going. With Aussie punk rockers Trophy Eyes following next, the lineup was already proving to be a very popular one. Starting with their latest single, โ€˜Enmoreโ€™, the crowd took a little warming up again but soon enough the crowd was moving once more. Particularly popular songs included โ€˜People Like Youโ€™ and โ€˜Life in Slow Motionโ€™ and โ€˜Chlorineโ€™.ย Finally, the time had come for Boston Manor.

With their new albumย Sundiverย released less than a month earlier, thereโ€™s no doubt itโ€™s been received well as the crowd sung back all the latest songs off the album including โ€˜Containerโ€™, โ€˜Sliding Doorsโ€™ and โ€˜HEAT ME UPโ€™ amongst others, and when the old songs hit, you really knew about it. The band ended with โ€˜Foxgloveโ€™ which really lit up the crowd – an old favourite. The band only get better each show, and despite having a chest infection, vocalist Henry Cox still managed to give it his all and put on a hardy performance. Overall a brilliant night of music was had and no doubt Boston Manor will be back, better than ever, next time perhaps in the second biggest venue in the city?
