K.Flay has returned with her new single, Ants, released today (September 4), and it sees the Grammy-nominated artist taking aim at the destructive nature of power.

The track uses the seemingly insignificant image of ants to explore humanity’s capacity for destruction, while also turning the focus back on our own responsibility and complicity.

“Ants is about the destructive nature of power,” explains K.Flay. “It’s an expression of the disillusionment I feel when I look out at the world right now, when I see what corporations and governments and billionaires are doing. It’s also an expression of my own sense of culpability.”

That idea of personal responsibility is central to the song, with K.Flay adding: “Because I wear boots. I kill ants.”

“There are levels to this power, this loss,” she continues. “And as humans, we all have to decide, whether consciously or not, how much we’re willing to destroy.”
