After announcing plans to call time on Enter Shikari at the end of 2027, the St Albans favourites have surprised fans with a brand-new single, Higher Ground.

The track was written during the sessions for this year’s Lose Your Self album, but ultimately didn’t make the final cut after the band decided it felt more like its own standalone piece than part of the wider record.

Instead, Higher Ground has now emerged as a reflective and optimistic track about stepping back, taking stock and trying to see the bigger picture.

“Our music has often been about zooming out,” says frontman Rou Reynolds. “Looking at the bigger picture on things gives us perspective, clarity, and often a strange calm in today’s relentless and difficult times.

“Higher Ground is about just how pivotal taking the broad perspective is. Whether in our personal lives or when looking at the biggest problems that humanity faces, we often gain clarity and see connections that were previously hidden when we find time to zoom out.”

Despite being written alongside the material that became Lose Your Self, the track took a different path, with the band gradually finishing it over the months that followed.

“The track was written during the recording sessions for Lose Your Self but felt like its own entity so was parked and finished off slowly over spring and summer this year.”

And with Enter Shikari now set to bring their story to a close in 2027, Higher Ground arrives as another unexpected chapter from one of the UK’s most unpredictable alternative bands.
