The Amity Affliction are back with a new record, and it’s brutally heavy in all the right places. The album is composed of twelve songs to mosh to, scream to, and deeply relate to.

The Amity Affliction have pushed boundaries in terms of depth, emotion and experimentation with this offering, which is raw, honest, and brave while it tackles difficult themes such as suicidal ideation, grief, addiction, and rage. The band have drawn from their personal experiences and channelled them creatively into a uniquely emotive album.

These songs are presented to the listener as a shared experience and speak to us through the heartfelt lyrics while igniting all of our senses with the accompanying purely chaotic noise.

Interesting voice-overs and melodies lead to intently sung and strummed chords throughout. All instrumentals go in full throttle at the same time, complementing and provoking each other to create opposing-sounding and rule-breaking metal.

The album is full of cleverly intricate backing tracks, layers of intensity and suspenseful melodic lead-ups to the biggest breakdowns. It creates an overall effect of visceral chills within the listener while multiple layers are intertwined into an original concept of artistically defined complex sounds. The vocals fluctuate effortlessly between singing and screaming, remaining powerful and gripping.

Drum trills are doing double time and lead us into the biggest vocal breakdowns, pauses in instrumental melodies for effect and then swiftly on to a whole new listening journey and back again. The sounds are consistently ever-changing, but there’s a sense of integrity throughout.

The album is dark yet wholesome, and highlights that through the band’s struggles came their creative freedom. It feels very personal with a powerful message within each song that expresses the strength of the human mind, our resilience and how we can break through while breakdowns ensue.

A hugely relatable album that people can explore and receive hope from in a beautifully direct, honest and hardcore way.

The Amity Affliction are not afraid to deconstruct complex issues while dissecting their talents and destroying musical norms. They’ve earned the clarity to move forward without illusion, continuing not because they have something left to prove but because they know exactly why they’re still here.
