After tearing up stages across the globe for the past year, San Franciscoโs Spiritual Cramp have finally announced their long-awaited second album,ย RUDE, set for release onย October 24 via Blue Grape Music.
Following a series of EPs and their acclaimed self-titled debut, RUDE marks a huge leap forward for the band. This time, Spiritual Cramp have opened up the songwriting process to the whole group, and the results are as epic as youโd expect. Produced byย Grammy-winner John Congleton, mixed byย Carlos de la Garza, and even featuring a duet withย Sharon Van Etten, this album feels like the sound of a band levelling up.
The first taste of RUDE comes in the form ofย ‘At My Funeral’, a swaggering new single that perfectly captures Spiritual Crampโs genre-hopping chaos. Think dub-soaked punk, Bay Area hardcore, and reckless garage-rock all smashed together, with a side of self-deprecating humour, of course. โWhen you focus on yourself and the people around you, you can keep your side of the street clean,โ explains Bingham. โAnd when I see the opposite of that, I get kind of offended, which is what a lot of these songs are about.โ
