Mixing dark electronica with soaring guitars, Call Me Amour has carved out a unique space in the alt UK music scene. Their music is designed to evoke raw emotion, whether itโ€™s through a feeling, a memory, or the energy of a live show.

Their latest EP takes everything they established with their debut, Revolution, and amplifies it to new heights. Exploring themes of friendship, toxicity, love, and loss, the five-track release is a sonic journey that invites listeners to forge their own connection with the music. With colossal guitars, electronic soundscapes, and towering melodies, Call Me Amour is a band that demands attention. We caught up with guitarist Geoff Murphy ahead of the release of their self-titled EP to discuss the bandโ€™s journey, their new EP, and whatโ€™s next for Call Me Amour.

The story of Call Me Amour begins on the Isle of Man, a small island in the Irish Sea known more for its motorcycle races than its music scene. Geoff Murphy, alongside vocalist Harry Radford (formerly of Yashin), started the band almost by accident. โ€œHarry moved back to the Isle of Man after Yashin disbanded,โ€ Geoff explains. โ€œHe wanted to do some acoustic shows locally, just to keep his hand in music. We started writing a few acoustic songs, but then we began adding EDM elements, and it grew from there. Before we knew it, we were a full band playing rock shows instead of acoustic sets in pubs.โ€ The bandโ€™s lineup solidified with drummer Danny and bassist Brian, and their sound evolved into a fusion of electronic and rock influences. โ€œIt was an accidental growth,โ€ Geoff admits, โ€œbut it felt natural. The music we were writing demanded something bigger.โ€

Being based on the Isle of Man presented its own set of challenges. โ€œA lot of people donโ€™t know much about the island,โ€ Geoff says. โ€œThey think itโ€™s just a tiny rock in the middle of the sea, but itโ€™s actually a vibrant place with a lot of talent. The challenge was getting noticed on the mainland.โ€ Despite the geographical hurdles, Call Me Amour has managed to break through, thanks in part to Harryโ€™s previous industry experience and the bandโ€™s relentless drive. โ€œWeโ€™ve had to push ourselves harder, but itโ€™s been worth it,โ€ Geoff says. โ€œItโ€™s inspiring to see other bands from the island doing the same. It gives you that belief that you can make it, no matter where youโ€™re from.โ€

Call Me Amourโ€™s latest EP is a testament to their collaborative spirit. The band enlisted the help of friends and industry heavyweights, including Scott Kennedy (Bleed From Within) and Mikey Chapman (Mallory Knox), to bring their vision to life. โ€œWe needed something with aggression for one of the tracks, and Scott was the perfect fit,โ€ Geoff recalls. โ€œWe met him at a gig in Glasgow, and a year later, he was laying down vocals for us. It was surreal.โ€ Mikey Chapmanโ€™s contribution came about during the recording process. โ€œMikey was hanging out with us in the studio, and he heard one of the tracks. He offered to add his vocals, and it just elevated the song to another level,โ€ Geoff says. The EP itself is a genre-blending masterpiece, with each track offering something different. โ€œWe wanted to experiment and push boundaries,โ€ Geoff explains. โ€œFrom old-school thrash vibes to Boston Manor-esque melodies, we tried to incorporate as much as we could without losing our identity.โ€

Call Me Amourโ€™s live shows are where their music truly comes to life. โ€œPlaying these songs live is an incredible experience,โ€ Geoff says. โ€œThereโ€™s a section in one of the tracks where Scottโ€™s vocals kick in, and it gives me goosebumps every time.โ€ The band celebrated the launch of the EP supporting Set It Off on tour, a milestone Geoff describes as a โ€œdream come true.โ€ โ€œThis is the biggest tour weโ€™ve done, not just in terms of dates but also the venues and the importance of it. Itโ€™s a great way to kick off the year.โ€ Looking ahead, Call Me Amour has big plans. โ€œWeโ€™re already working on new material and have some festivals lined up,โ€ Geoff reveals. โ€œThe goal is to keep growing, keep writing music weโ€™re proud of, and hopefully, take it worldwide.โ€

When asked about who his dream collaborations would be, Geoff provided a list of legends and modern icons. โ€œKurt Cobain, David Bowie, and Corey Taylor would be at the top of my list,โ€ he says. โ€œCoreyโ€™s voice and presence are just incredible. Heโ€™s someone Iโ€™d love to work with.โ€ Geoffโ€™s musical tastes are as eclectic as Call Me Amourโ€™s sound. โ€œI listen to everything from funk and soul to old-school thrash and grunge,โ€ he says. โ€œGood music is good music, regardless of the genre. Thatโ€™s what we try to bring to our own songs.โ€

Call Me Amour is a band on the rise, and their latest EP is just the beginning. With their unique blend of dark electronica and sonic guitars, theyโ€™re poised to make a lasting impact on the music scene. โ€œWe just want to keep growing and creating music that resonates with people,โ€ Geoff says. โ€œIf we can do that, then weโ€™re on the right path.โ€

If you missed out on Call Me Amour on tour with Set It Off last month, then keep an eye out for what’s to come next. This is a band you wonโ€™t want to miss.
