Following their January comeback, The XCERTS have returned with something far more personal. In your eyes is a song about loss, cancer, and the things you hope will ring out long after you’re gone.

The XCERTS have released their second single of 2026, in your eyes, following January’s do it to myself.

It’s a significant step further inward. Vocalist Murray Macleod describes it as “without question the most raw and personal song we’ve ever written,” and the weight of that claim is audible throughout. At its core, the track is about two kinds of loss: the end of a relationship he believed would last forever, and the cruelty of cancer.

Macleod wrote the closing lines, “This isn’t goodbye, this is I’ll love you forever,” with a particular kind of finality in mind, though not a closed one. “It’s a desperate grieving cry,” he says, “but while writing the words, I also thought, ‘Well, if this is the last thing we ever create then that’s the message I want to ring out.’” He acknowledges the sincerity of it and stands by it anyway. The truth, he says, is all they wanted to convey.

The song ends with bassist Jordan Smith’s mum blowing a kiss and saying she loves him. It was important to Macleod that she close it out. The song, he says, belongs to her.
