Sleep Token continue their unflinching deep-dive into vulnerability with the release of Damocles, the third single from their upcoming album Even In Arcadia – and it might just be their most emotionally devastating yet...

Words by Felix Bartlett | April 25, 2025

Following the jagged introspection of ‘Caramel’ and the expansive ‘Emergence’, ‘Damocles’ lands today (April 25) as a stripped-back, ballad-leaning offering – but make no mistake, the lyrics hit hard. Vessel turns the lens inward, laying bare the weight of expectations, creative burnout, and the disorienting nature of success.

“Well, I know I should be touring, I know these chords are boring,” he confesses mid-track. “But I can’t always be killing the game / No golden grand pianos or voices from the shadows will do anythin’ but feel the same.”

If ‘Caramel’ cracked the mask, ‘Damocles’ all but tears it off – with a chorus that spills over with pain: “When the river runs dry and the curtain is called / How will I know if I can’t see the bottom? / Come up for air and choke on it all / No-one else knows that I’ve got a problem.”

It’s a vulnerable, human moment from an artist known for mystery – a rare glimpse beneath the Sleep Token veil.

The track appears on Even In Arcadia, due May 9 via RCA. The album features ten tracks, including fan favourites Look To Windward, Past Self, and title track Even In Arcadia. Full tracklist below:
