Liverpool’s vibrant celebrations featured a captivating live performance by the Old Norse ensemble, Wardruna. The band skillfully combines ancient Norse music with modern influences, paying homage to revered Pagan traditions. Their performance at the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic offered an innovative and exciting venue, in contrast to the smaller locations the group typically performs in.

As the concert progressed throughout the evening, the hall’s natural acoustics enhanced the lively atmosphere. The enchanting dual vocals of Einar Selvik and Lindy-Fay Hella created a magical connection with the mesmerized audience, linking them to their Norse heritage. The emotional depth of the performance was particularly evident in their use of Old Norse instruments and compelling storytelling. A standout moment occurred after the song ‘Fehu,’ when the crowd erupted into a two-minute standing ovation, clearly reflecting their shared emotions as the music filled the space.

The night concluded with the poignant ‘Helvegen,’ while ‘Hibjørnen,’ which was accompanied solely by a lyre, conveyed even deeper emotional resonance. Selvik’s heartfelt reflections on the power of music to unite people struck a chord with the audience, highlighting the importance of connection in today’s world and evenings like this one.
