Bristol’s ArcTanGent Festival has truly outdone itself for its 10th edition, having started back in 2013 with headliners 65daysofstatic and Fuck Buttons. The festival has always aimed to showcase the best in post-rock and experimental music, expanding over the years to include a significant amount of metal and other niche genres. Its evolution into the home of alternative music enthusiasts is a testament to its success and vision.
Festival organizer James Scarlett have previously spoken about making significant investments to secure Mogwai as the headliner for ArcTanGent’s 10th year, alongside the returning Meshuggah and Explosions In The Sky. This years line up is proving to be an absolute belter of a year featuring acts like Electric Wizard, Animals As Leaders, and Spiritualized.
ArcTanGent’s appeal lies in its dedication to showcasing the weird and wonderful, offering fans the chance to discover new and underrated acts. With so many incredible artists performing this was a tough list to put together but here is a selection of some of the acts we here at AMPED! emplore you to go check out over the weekend.
DELTA SLEEP | Friday โ Yohkai Stage
Where to start with Delta Sleep, the math rock band formed in 2010 and have continued to smash expectations with their blend of math rock’s signature complex and intricate guitar riffs blended with indie rock, and post-rock. The band’s signature sound blends like butter with Yรผceil’s melancholic lyrics that hit even harder in a perfect combination of indie ingenuity, angular playing, and catchy sing-along hooks.
earthtone9 | Saturday – Bixler Stage
Having recently dropped their first album in 11 years the British metal icons recently came onto our radar with their track ‘Oceanic Drift’ and made its way onto our debut New Noise playlist rendition. Anticipation has been high ever since this announcement and if their new single is anything to go by then this is sure to be one hell of a comeback show.
URNE | Thursday – Bixler Stage
Looking for something a little more heavy to wet your appetite this weekend? Then Urne has you covered. Having completed a slew of headline shows, alongside sets at Download and Bloodstock the London metal trio are proving to be a force to be reckoned with. Their second album released back in 2023 was praised by fans new and old alike! We’ll catch you in the pit for this one!
VOWER | Saturday – Yohkai Stage
Whilst relatively new on the scene Vower has some aboslute heavy weights within its ranks with the band consisting of members from Black Peaks, Toska, and Palm Reader. With a sound that blends elements of post-rock, progressive metal, and post-hardcore, their live shows are something to behold with an atmospheric and heavy experience filled with intricate song structures. Diving into themes like social media and mental health the band promise to deliver a thought provoking and solid set on their Saturday slot.
HIDDEN MOTHERS | Wednesday – Yohkai Stage
Heading down Wednesday? Then we have the perfect band to kick off your weekend. Wipe that lunch off your face and get stuck into Sheffield’s ethereal post hardcore / screamo band Hidden Mothers. Having come onto the scene in 2019 the group have consistently shown to be a force to be reckoned with. With a new album on the horizon that promises to deliver on their heavy and atmospheric sound this might be your chance to catch some of their new tracks before anyone else!
