Scene Queen’s debut full-length album, ‘Hot Singles In Your Area,’ set to release tomorrow (Friday 28th June) is a bold and unapologetic edition to her discography. This album is the perfect showcase of Scene Queen’s talent to uniquely blend heavy themes with playful irreverence, as well as blending heavy riffs and breakdowns with a 2000’s pop princess nostalgia. It’s Scene Queens “bimbocore” world and we are so here for it.

Aforementioned, ‘Hot Singles In Your Area’ strikes a delicate balance between addressing weighty subjects such as sexual harassment and misogyny whilst always maintaining an overall sense of fun. The album’s strength lies in its ability to tackle serious topics while keeping the energy high, which many artists struggle to do. It is perfectly executed and full of attitude. Scene Queen isn’t afraid to push boundaries and challenge expectations, making for a provocative listening experience. Her bold approach extends to the lyrical content, which is certainly not safe for work but adds to the album’s overall impact and memorability.

From the get go, with the first track ‘BDSM, Scene Queen is making her presence known. A highlight being the lyric “BDSM (Big Dumb Stupid Men), Scene Queen hates men” lets listeners know straight away the tone of the album. Coupled with filthy breakdowns before going into her iconic “bimbcore” rap/pop verses, the song is the perfect introduction to ‘Hot Singles In Your Area’.

Many fans are already familiar with her anthem ’18+‘, but I just have to talk about it some more. This song is so important in the alternative music scene and honestly I think needs to be heard by everyone. We are all familiar with too many musicians who have been cancelled due to their involvement with underage fans, and to have balls as big as Scene Queen, and use your platform to share lyrics like “headline spot goes to the abuser, half my idols are fucking losers” is incredibly bold and powerful. She really came for people’s heads with this track, channelling the anger of so many queer and female fans who have been taken advantage of by their supposed role models.

Other tracks we are so far familiar with on this album include ‘Whips and Chains’ which blends R&B with pop and metal and its brilliant highlighting the rage of women going on a killing spree after catching someone spiking their drink. “Hang his dick to the wall of shame” will forever live in my head rent free. Then there is ‘Pink Push-Up Bra’ which has a crowd going mental at one of her live shows, everyone cathartically screaming. And we can’t forget ‘MILF’ which is the poster song for modern “yall’ternative” effortlessly combing country and metal.

Another new addition that many fans will be hearing for the first time is ‘Mutual Masturbation’. This has to be a highlight for me, as a woman in the industry this song just goes so much harder highlighting the mutual given respect men have for each other whilst women have to work ten times harder just to be noticed despite their talent and graft. It is the perfect edition to Scene Queen’s repertoire of man hating anthems.

‘Girls Gone Wild’ featuring none other than Wargasm is the ultimate party tune giving ultimate pop nostalgia with satirical lyrics that you just have to scream out such as “If I had a dick I would fuck the world over” and “If I had a dick I’d be dangerous”.

Perhaps my favourite track on the album would have to be ‘Amateur’, it is just the peak of female sexual liberation in a track with the catchiest lyrics. The full record is packed with similar powerful choruses and verses that are addictive. This knack for creating memorable musical moments is a standout feature, setting Scene Queen and “bimbocore” apart in a crowded musical landscape.

From start to finish, when I first listened to the album in full I could imagine a crowd of women screaming and dancing and having a hardcore cathartic experience full of “twerkle pits”.

‘Hot Singles In Your Area’, set to release tomorrow will appeal to all the girls gays and they, and any listeners who can appreciate a mix pop with metalcore aggression. It is all wrapped up in a package that doesn’t take itself too seriously. The album is proof that heavy music can be fun without sacrificing depth. It’s a promising debut that establishes Scene Queen as an artist to watch in the evolving landscape of alternative music.

Verdict: 💅🏻💅🏻💅🏻💅🏻
